Hugo Ekitike is gradually moving closer to a return to action. After rupturing his right Achilles tendon against PSG last April, the Liverpool striker has continued his lengthy rehabilitation without any major setbacks. According to L’Équipe, the former Paris Saint-Germain player is now hoping to return to competitive football in December.
Ekitike’s 2025-2026 season came to an abrupt end in April. During the match against Paris Saint-Germain (0-0), the France international suffered a ruptured right Achilles tendon, one of the most serious injuries a footballer can sustain.
Ekitike can now start jogging again
Since then, the 24-year-old striker has been following a carefully monitored rehabilitation programme. The latest news is encouraging, with L’Équipe reporting that Ekitike is currently meeting the different milestones set out in his recovery plan. After spending time at Clairefontaine in September, the Liverpool forward recently travelled to the United States to consult a specialist and assess the progress of his tendon.
Ekitike is now able to jog, an important milestone before an expected increase in his workload during November. If his body responds well and no complications disrupt his recovery, the former PSG striker should then gradually resume more intensive training sessions.
The objective is now clear: a return to competitive action in December. His comeback will be eagerly awaited at Liverpool after a 2025-2026 season in which Ekitike scored 17 goals in 45 appearances across all competitions. However, the Frenchman must still complete the final stages of his rehabilitation before a precise return date can be set.
