Mohamed Salah (33 years old) exploded after the 3-3 draw at Leeds. For the third consecutive time, the Liverpool winger started on the bench in the Premier League… and this sidelining before the Africa Cup of Nations has made him reach his breaking point. The Egyptian sent a blunt message, revealing a deep discomfort.
But what is happening with Mo Salah? Almost pushed out last summer before ultimately extending his contract, the player thought he would maintain a central role in the project. However, Arne Slot has relegated him to the status of a substitute — a situation that Salah cannot digest.
“This is not acceptable for me. I don’t know why this is happening to me. I am being thrown under the bus… as if I were the problem. I don’t think I am the problem. I had a good relationship with the manager, and suddenly, nothing. I don’t know why,” the Egyptian star said on TV2 Sport.
Salah clearly mentions a departure
The forward goes further, claiming to feel unwanted: “I feel like someone no longer wants me at the club. We’ll see. I just want to enjoy the game, even when I’m not playing. The match at Anfield is coming: I will greet the supporters, I will play if given the chance, then I will go to the Africa Cup of Nations… and honestly, I don’t know what will happen next.”
A heavy statement… and very unusual for Salah, who is generally discreet about his feelings.
Slot taken aback
Asked this Monday, Arne Slot expressed surprise at the extent of his player’s anger. “Before Saturday, we talked a lot. I absolutely did not feel that. When I don’t play the players, they don’t like it, but he was respectful to everyone and trained very hard. So it was a surprise when I heard his comments.”
But the Dutch coach warns: this public outburst will not go without consequences. “If he shares this publicly as he has done, we must sanction him.”
Already a sporting sanction
Let’s remember that Salah is sidelined for the Champions League clash against Inter Milan on Tuesday (9 PM). The situation is tense… and the aftermath of the Africa Cup of Nations could be explosive.
