After their shock defeat away to Bodø/Glimt (3-1) on Tuesday night in the Champions League, the Manchester City players decided to make a strong gesture toward their supporters.
City’s players have responded after their embarrassing loss. The Citizens will refund the tickets of the 374 fans who traveled to Norway to attend the match. It is a drop in the ocean compared to their wages, but a symbolic decision nonetheless.
A Symbolic Gesture After a Painful Night
This choice was made by the group of captains — Bernardo Silva, Rodri, Ruben Dias and Erling Haaland — who wanted to pay tribute to the loyalty of the supporters. In a message, the players recalled the sacrifices made by fans to follow the team, often in difficult conditions, and believe that covering the cost of the tickets is “the minimum” after a performance deemed insufficient on the pitch.
“We are aware of the sacrifices our supporters make when they travel around the world to support us at home and away, and we will never forget them. They are the best supporters in the world. We know that the fans who backed us in the freezing cold on this difficult night on the pitch had to make a long journey. Covering the price of their tickets to Bodø is the least we can do,” explained the group of captains.
