Injured in the face during the match against Girona, Kylian Mbappé missed Real Madrid’s training session on Sunday, just days before the Champions League quarter-final second leg against Bayern Munich.
The French striker suffered a blow near his eye—almost directly to it—resulting in a cut above the eyebrow. The collision occurred with defender Vitor Reis in the final seconds of the match (1-1), yet no penalty was awarded despite the impact.
Controversy Surrounding Refereeing Decisions
Unsurprisingly, the incident reignited debate over refereeing and the use of VAR. Madrid coach Alvaro Arbeloa strongly criticized the decision, stating: “For me, it’s a clear penalty, whether here or on the Moon. It’s yet another situation. No one understands when VAR intervenes and when it doesn’t. It’s becoming too much with referees.”

Mbappé, who required stitches, remains physically uncertain. This is bad news for Real Madrid, already defeated 2-1 in the first leg, and now needing a major performance at the Allianz Arena.
The player later shared an image of his scar on Instagram, highlighting the severity of the injury.
