France’s elimination at the hands of Spain in the 2026 FIFA World Cup semi-finals has reportedly left Kylian Mbappé deeply affected. Beaten 2-0 by La Roja on Tuesday, Les Bleus bowed out of the tournament after producing a disappointing display that fell far below expectations.
Mbappé had been determined to win a second World Cup title with France. According to L’Équipe, the French captain was even more devastated than most of his teammates following the defeat. A source close to the squad described him as being “overwhelmed by anger” and still completely “shaken” by the way the match unfolded.
Mbappé Questions France’s Collapse Against Spain
The Real Madrid forward reportedly struggled to understand why Didier Deschamps’ tactical instructions were not followed more effectively. France’s pressing, particularly after the break, failed to disrupt Spain’s passing game, allowing La Roja to dominate possession throughout the second half.
That inability to respond to Spain’s superiority is said to have left Mbappé deeply frustrated. The French captain had hoped to lead his country back to another World Cup final but instead watched helplessly as the team suffered a collective collapse. While the entire French delegation remains disappointed by the elimination, Mbappé is believed to be the player most affected as France now prepares to face England in the third-place playoff.
