Kylian Mbappé’s brief trip to Dubai while injured is still making waves in French football. Sidelined with an ankle issue, the Real Madrid star was released from the France squad for the second, meaningless match in Azerbaijan (1–3).
For many observers, journalists and former players, it looked like yet another privilege granted to the national team captain.
But inside the France squad, that narrative is firmly rejected. Brice Samba, present during the international break, shut down the criticism, insisting Mbappé received no special treatment.
“No one gets special privileges in the France team”
“You’re the ones making a scandal out of it,” Samba fired back. “We have no issue with it. I don’t know exactly what was said between him and the coach, but if the coach says his ankle was really hurting, then it was. I don’t see why people would invent things. I see all these rumours saying Kylian has privileges, but no one has privileges in the France team.”
He continued: “We all know the champion he is. I’m not going into details, you should ask the coach. The facts are the facts.”
The debate, however, keeps growing, with some even suggesting the captain’s armband should be taken away from Mbappé.
