OM: Beye, forever the first to be eliminated

Habib Beye has entered the history books… but not in the best way. After already being knocked out of the Coupe de France with Rennes (0–3) in the round of 16, the Franco-Senegalese coach once again exited the competition this Wednesday with Olympique de Marseille against Toulouse (2–2, 3–4 on penalties).

Beye now holds a painful statistic for OM. According to Opta, he has become the first coach to be eliminated with two different Ligue 1 clubs during the same edition of the Coupe de France.

For Olympique de Marseille, the frustration is also significant. The Phocéens, who had taken the lead twice, were unable to make the difference during regular time before losing on penalties to Toulouse (2–2, 4–3 on penalties) in the quarter-finals.

This elimination extends a troubling streak for the Marseille club in the competition. Over the previous three seasons, Annecy (2–2, 6–7 on penalties), Rennes (1–1, 9–8 on penalties) and Lille (1–1, 3–4 on penalties) had already ended OM’s hopes in penalty shootouts.
