At Olympique de Marseille, the heavy 3-0 defeat against Nantes has triggered a strong internal reaction. The club has decided to organize a new training camp confinement starting this Monday at La Commanderie, with no specific duration announced.
The end of OM’s season is turning into a settling of scores. The players are being punished by the staff through this potentially extended confinement. According to RMC Sport journalist Daniel Riolo, this decision, led by Medhi Benatia, is fully backed by owner Frank McCourt, who is particularly furious with his players. “Frank McCourt is very, very angry,” he said.
Sanctions and Tensions at Marseille
Still according to Riolo, this confinement resembles a sanction: “McCourt supports this lockdown, I don’t know how to put it, but it’s like revenge against the players. Basically: ‘We’re going to make you pay. You earn huge salaries, what you’re doing is absolutely shameful, and we’re going to make you pay.’”
However, the decision is reportedly not unanimous, especially for Habib Beye, who is skeptical about the effectiveness of this method within a weakened squad.
Before the trip to Le Havre AC on Sunday, this training camp confinement could therefore last for some time.
