Paul Pogba signed with AS Monaco in a big summer move, but Ligue 1 fans will have to wait—possibly for months—before seeing him on the pitch.
The French midfielder, suspended for doping and out of action since September 2023, is not expected to return before October at the earliest. Asked whether Pogba could feature against his former club Le Havre on the weekend of August 16, Monaco’s general director Thiago Scuro shut down any hope.
“Paul Pogba won’t be able to play against Le Havre. We have to be realistic. We expect a three-month process to recondition him physically,” said Scuro in a press conference.
A long wait ahead
The club plans to take all necessary time to get the former Juventus man back into top form. “High-level football looks easy on TV, but it demands an exceptional level of fitness. At Monaco, we’re one of the most intense teams in Ligue 1 and Europe. It’s our job to give Paul the tools to be ready for that,” Scuro added.
Barring a surprise, Pogba won’t return before October—or even November. Monaco will have to be patient.
