Paul Pogba is back, and everyone noticed. Coming on for his first appearance in more than two years, the 32-year-old midfielder experienced an emotional comeback despite Monaco’s heavy 4-1 defeat away to Rennes.
Ovationed by the opposing crowd, Pogba admitted how special the moment felt: “There were a lot of emotions. I was happy, but there was a bit of sadness with the result. We’ve come from far. Today was a step to overcome. I did it and I’m happy about that.” Torn between personal joy and sporting frustration, he didn’t hide his disappointment: “Yes, it’s beautiful, it’s the return of Paul Pogba… but I play for Monaco and I don’t like losing.”
“I still need time to be fit and play 90 minutes”
Still rebuilding physically, Pogba remains optimistic: “I still need time to be fit and play 90 minutes. But it will come. I tried to bring energy and enjoyment.” And the reception from the stadium moved him deeply: “Honestly, I wasn’t expecting that, it really touched me to see the crowd stand and applaud. A big thank you to all the fans who supported me, it was really touching.”
Now, Pogba wants to continue, help his team, and become influential again. An emotional return, and maybe the start of a new chapter.
