Rangers FC announced this Sunday the dismissal of their coach, Philippe Clement, despite the team’s qualification for the Europa League round of 16, where they will face Fenerbahçe on March 6 and 13.
This decision comes as a result of disappointing performances on the domestic stage. Currently second in the Scottish league, the Glasgow club trails Celtic by 13 points. On Saturday, Rangers suffered a 2-0 defeat against St. Mirren, adding to their Scottish Cup elimination two weeks ago against Queen’s Park (0-1), a second-division team.
In an official statement, the club confirmed the departure of Philippe Clement, acknowledging his hard work and dedication during his tenure. A further update from the club will follow in due course.
“Rangers Football Club can confirm it has tonight parted company with men’s first-team manager, Philippe Clement. The club would like to put on record their sincere thanks to Philippe for his hard work and dedication during his spell in charge. A further update from the club will follow in due course”, the club said in a statement.
