After the elimination against Bayern Munich, Real Madrid suffered another major blow. In the aftermath, Florentino Pérez went into the locker room to deliver a frank speech to his players, combining recognition with strong criticism.
Florentino Pérez made things clear: this season is a failure. And that does not sit well with the Real Madrid president. He therefore chose to speak directly to the players after the Champions League exit, according to Sport. “I appreciate your efforts today, but this season is a disappointment. You know how demanding it is to be a Real Madrid player.”
A Season Far Below Expectations
The Madrid president then stressed the overall record, deemed insufficient given the club’s standards. A season without a trophy is already problematic, but following it up with two trophyless campaigns is, in his view, unacceptable for an institution like Real. “A season without a title is a failure because we are Real Madrid, but two seasons without a title is intolerable.”
Beyond the results, it is also the attitude that is being questioned. Pérez reminded the squad that wearing this shirt remains a rare privilege in a career, coveted by all players. “You know that being a Real Madrid player is a privilege for a footballer and that everyone dreams of wearing our club’s shirt.”
The speech ended with a harsh conclusion: some have not met expectations. Between status and duty, the president believes that Real Madrid’s demands have not been respected. “In addition to being a privilege, wearing this shirt is also a responsibility, and many of you have not taken that responsibility. You have not lived up to the club’s expectations.”
