Completely overwhelmed in the first half, Lille suffered a heavy 4-1 defeat against Paris Saint-Germain this Saturday at the Parc des Princes in Ligue 1. LOSC striker Jonathan David admitted PSG’s superiority in an interview with DAZN, while regretting his team’s inability to respond better.
“I’m frustrated and disappointed because we wanted to show a better side. Paris is a great team and proves why they are at the top. In the second half, we tried to react, but we need to learn from this game ahead of Dortmund,” said the Canadian forward, who scored Lille’s only goal.
Meanwhile, defender Bafodé Diakité highlighted PSG’s collective strength, acknowledging the evolution of their team play this season.
“It was tough, they attack from everywhere. This year, you can feel a real unity within the squad, which wasn’t always the case before. Now, we must focus on Dortmund,” he explained.
“They Are on Another Planet”
After the match, Lille coach Bruno Génésio also recognized PSG’s sheer dominance.
“We did what we thought was best for this match. It didn’t work against this team. In this league, there is Paris, Paris, and Paris. The others fight for what’s left. They are on another planet compared to the other 17 teams in this championship.”
However, Genesio took a jab at the LFP, criticizing their refusal to reschedule the match despite Lille’s request.
“We play Dortmund in the Champions League on Tuesday. Every decision we made took both this match and Tuesday’s into account. Without complaining too much, maybe the league could have done things differently,” he said, emphasizing the importance of player well-being in his press conference.
Dembélé Shines Again as PSG Thrives Under Enrique
Ousmane Dembélé continues to impress in 2025, having now scored 18 goals in 22 Ligue 1 matches.
After delivering another top-class performance in the 4-1 win over Lille, the French winger praised the team’s collective strength and his enjoyment playing under Luis Enrique.
“Since the beginning of the season, the coach has told us to play good football, and everyone is involved, everyone wants to be decisive. We’re in a great dynamic, and we’ll try to keep it going as long as possible. We’re having a blast, everyone attacks, everyone defends, we’re a united team, and it brings results. It’s just pure joy for 90, 95 minutes.”
When asked about the key to his improved form, Dembélé credited a mix of factors.
“The reason for my breakthrough? A bit of everything… my positioning, but above all, the mentality—the desire to score and make an impact in every game. I get the ball more often, I believe in myself in front of goal, and it’s paying off. I’m happy.”
Looking ahead to the Champions League clash against Liverpool, he expects a tough but exciting match.
“Liverpool? It’s going to be difficult, but it will be a great match. They finished first in their group, they are leaders in England… We’re confident, and I think they are too. It’s going to be an incredible spectacle,” he told DAZN.
