Things have gone from bad to worse for Federico Chiesa at Liverpool. Signed in 2023 with high hopes as an exciting attacking addition, the Italian winger has failed to make an impact. Last season, he played just 6 Premier League matches, often left on the bench—or worse, in the stands.
Now, the writing seems to be on the wall: Chiesa has been excluded from the 29-man squad heading to Asia (Hong Kong and Japan) for pre-season. It’s a clear sign—his departure looks all but certain.
Luis Diaz makes the cut
The contrast is striking. Luis Diaz, who’s also linked with a move (notably to Bayern Munich), is included in the squad. That alone shows where Chiesa stands in the pecking order: nowhere near the club’s current plans.
At 27, the former Juventus star will likely look to revive his career elsewhere—ideally at a club ready to bet on his explosiveness and ability to thrive in tight spaces. Several Serie A and Premier League clubs are reportedly monitoring his situation.
