Dimitri Payet’s journey with Vasco da Gama is coming to an end. At 37, the French attacking midfielder is unlikely to see his contract—set to expire in June—renewed by the Brazilian club, according to RTI Esporte.
Despite earning an estimated salary of over €6,000 per day, Payet has struggled for game time under his coach. As a result, the former Marseille star is expected to leave the team mid-season, as Brazil’s football calendar follows the calendar year.
The question now is whether Payet will choose to retire or seek a new challenge elsewhere. Notably, he has a clause allowing him to transition into a role at Olympique de Marseille, should he decide to take that path.
