It looked like Arsenal had the edge—but now Manchester United are on the verge of snatching Viktor Gyökeres right out from under them.
The Swedish striker had an insane season with Sporting CP (54 goals, 13 assists in 52 games) and is pushing for a move. But drawn-out negotiations with the Portuguese club have frustrated the player.
Arsenal were in advanced talks, but their offer included €10M in tough-to-reach bonuses—too risky for Sporting’s liking. Talks have since stalled, despite the Gunners’ wish to finalize the deal before their Asia tour.
Manchester United make their move
Enter Man United. According to A Bola, they’ve come forward with a €70–80M bid, slightly higher than Arsenal’s. A deal with Sporting appears to be close.
The final question? The player’s choice. Gyökeres initially leaned toward Arsenal—but with the current deadlock, Old Trafford might just win him over.
