Joao Cancelo will make his return to FC Barcelona. The Catalan club has reached a preliminary agreement with Al-Hilal for the loan of the Portuguese full-back until the end of the season.

At 31 years old, Cancelo will once again wear the blaugrana jersey, which he had already defended during the 2023-2024 season after a loan from Manchester City.

This operation has been made possible by the serious injury of Andreas Christensen, who will be unavailable for at least four months, freeing up salary space. The agreement is fully verbal, and only the formalization of contracts remains to make the operation official.

However, Cancelo will not be able to participate in the Supercopa de España. Administrative deadlines and his registration will not allow his presence for the semi-final against Athletic Club, nor for a potential final.

Barça must first deregister Christensen before they can register Cancelo. It remains to be seen whether the player will join the group quickly in Saudi Arabia or if he will wait to rejoin the team directly in Barcelona.
