The suspense is virtually over. In New York to attend the World Cup final, Jürgen Klopp confirmed that he is set to take charge of the German national team.
The idea had been tempting him for months. Klopp is returning to the dugout, and in one of football’s biggest jobs. The former Liverpool manager had already reached an agreement with the German Football Association several days ago, with only the official announcement now pending.
Klopp Wants the Deal Finalised Quickly
“I have reached an agreement with Red Bull, a very generous arrangement. So there is no real obstacle anymore,” the 59-year-old coach told Magenta TV. With Germany due to face the Netherlands in the Nations League on September 24, Klopp wants the situation resolved immediately. “Everything is moving in the right direction. After the final, we will fly back and try to settle it as quickly as possible. Ideally, it should be done within the next few days,” he added.

The future Germany coach insisted that there was now little doubt about the outcome. “The decision has to be made, and it will be,” he said. In a change from the original plan, Klopp is not expected to remain Red Bull’s global head of football while also managing the Mannschaft. Having joined the group in January 2025, he has reportedly been granted permission to leave his position and focus entirely on the national team.
Germany had been without a head coach since Julian Nagelsmann resigned following the shock defeat to Paraguay in the round of 32 at the 2026 World Cup. After that disappointing campaign, the German Football Association is preparing to make a major statement by entrusting the rebuild of the Mannschaft to one of the most popular and influential coaches of his generation.
