Once the rising star of European football, Xavi Simons now finds himself unwanted by Leipzig—and without suitors. A stalled career, a blocked transfer, and an uncertain future.
From rising star to unwanted asset : Just a year ago, Xavi Simons was one of the most sought-after young talents in Europe. Today, the Dutch midfielder is struggling to find a new club. After a disappointing season marred by poor form, alleged arrogance, and tense relations with teammates and Leipzig’s marketing team, the Bundesliga side has lost patience.
Bought back from PSG for €80 million, Leipzig had initially hoped to flip Simons for €100 million. Now, they’ve dropped the asking price to €70 million—but still no bites.
No offers, no Champions League
The transfer market has moved on. Manchester City chose Rayan Cherki, and Liverpool are targeting Florian Wirtz. Manchester United remains a possibility, but they can’t offer Champions League football—something Simons insists on.
At just 22, the Dutchman is stuck: Leipzig don’t want him, he doesn’t want to stay, and no top club seems ready to take the risk. If the situation drags on, Simons may be forced to return to a hostile dressing room, in what would be a major setback for his career.
