Mauricio Pochettino hasn’t given up on his dream of coaching Real Madrid. The former player and coach of Espanyol harbors a grudge against FC Barcelona and has openly expressed his admiration for the Madrid giants.
Despite his mixed success at PSG and Tottenham, Pochettino is currently focused on his role as the head coach of the United States national team, preparing for the 2026 World Cup, yet his thoughts are already drifting back to Europe and the possibility of leading Real Madrid.
In an interview with Josep Pedrerol on El Cafelito (via Marca), Pochettino made it clear that he believes in seizing opportunities.
“It’s never too late if luck is on my side,” he stated regarding a potential future at Madrid. He was previously considered a candidate to succeed Zinedine Zidane but was held back by Tottenham at that time. With Xabi Alonso facing pressure at Madrid, Pochettino remains vigilant about any openings.
Pochettino Critiques Barcelona
To further bolster his reputation, Pochettino took a swipe at Barcelona, saying, “People say Barça is more than a club. What does that mean? That we should instill certain ideas in children? I believe Barcelona is mistaken. They are a great club, but I don’t agree with what they are trying to sell to people.”
This comment adds to his image as an outspoken critic of Barcelona and positions him as a natural contender for the Real Madrid job.
As the coaching landscape shifts, Pochettino’s ambitions become clearer. His connection to Madrid and disdain for Barcelona could play a pivotal role in his future. The football world is watching closely, and with each passing moment, the dreams of Pochettino becoming a reality at the Santiago Bernabéu seem increasingly possible.
