Real Madrid have pulled off another major move in the transfer market. The Spanish giants officially announced the signing of Bernardo Silva on Wednesday after the Portuguese midfielder became a free agent following the expiration of his contract with Manchester City.
For weeks, speculation linked Silva with a move to Barcelona. Instead, the 31-year-old Portugal international chose Madrid’s biggest rival. He has signed a contract until June 2028, allowing Los Blancos to acquire one of the most gifted attacking midfielders of his generation without paying a transfer fee.
Mbappé and Bernardo Silva Reunited
This signing further highlights Real Madrid’s ambitions after recent arrivals such as Jose Mourinho and Marc Cucurella, while the club is also reportedly close to reaching an agreement with Ibrahima Konaté.
In Madrid, Bernardo Silva will reunite with Kylian Mbappé, his former teammate at AS Monaco. The duo famously won the Ligue 1 title together in 2017 before embarking on separate journeys at the highest level of European football.
The Portuguese star leaves Manchester City after an exceptional nine-year spell under Pep Guardiola. During his time with the Sky Blues, he made 451 appearances, scored 76 goals, and provided 77 assists. He departs England with an outstanding collection of 19 trophies, including one UEFA Champions League title and six Premier League crowns, before taking on what is already shaping up to be one of the standout transfers of the summer of 2026.
