Tottenham have officially announced the appointment of Roberto De Zerbi as their new head coach on a long-term contract, subject to obtaining his work permit. The Italian manager arrives with a clear ambition to revive the London club.
It’s now confirmed. Igor Tudor has been dismissed after just six weeks, and Roberto De Zerbi will take his place on the Tottenham bench. The immediate objective is to avoid relegation to England’s second division.
An ambitious project to revive Spurs
Clearly enthusiastic, De Zerbi said: “I am delighted to join this fantastic club, one of the biggest and most prestigious in the world. In my discussions with the board, their ambition for the future was very clear: to build a team capable of great performances with a style of play that excites the fans.”
The new coach has already outlined his priorities: “Our short-term goal is to climb up the Premier League table. That will be our priority until the end of the season. I can’t wait to get on the training ground with the players to achieve this.”
Sporting director Johan Lange confirmed the importance of the appointment: “Roberto was our top priority. He is one of the most creative and innovative coaches in world football, with extensive experience at the highest level.” After notable spells at Sassuolo, Shakhtar Donetsk, Brighton and Marseille, De Zerbi arrives at Tottenham tasked with giving Spurs fresh momentum and building a sustainable project.
