The Brazilian chapter is coming to an abrupt end for Dimitri Payet. Sidelined since a knee injury on April 16 and now embroiled in an off-field scandal, the former Marseille playmaker has fallen out of favour at Vasco da Gama.
Once welcomed with excitement, Payet is now persona non grata at Vasco. The club has made it clear: they want to terminate his contract, which runs until June 30, as soon as possible.
“We’re in discussions with his agents to organise an early termination, while respecting what Dimitri Payet represents for global football and for Vasco,” said club president Carlos Amodeo to the Brazilian Football Confederation.
Free Agent at 38?
At 38 years old, Payet could become a free agent in the coming weeks. The big question now: will he attempt one final challenge elsewhere—or quietly hang up his boots?
One thing is certain: this exit, clouded by scandal, leaves a sour note on what has otherwise been a rich and colourful career.
