Vitinha did not hesitate to get personally involved in convincing João Neves to join Paris Saint-Germain in the summer of 2024. In a documentary broadcast on Canal 11, the 26-year-old Portuguese midfielder revealed the behind-the-scenes story of the highly sought-after transfer.

The PSG player explained that he contacted his compatriot directly, even though they barely knew each other at the time. Aware of the Parisian club’s interest, he did everything he could to bring him to the French capital. “João, if you can… I know others will try to push for you to join them, but I would really like you to come here,” he reportedly told him.

Trained at Benfica, João Neves had already caught Vitinha’s eye long before arriving in Paris. The PSG midfielder said he quickly noticed a potential that went beyond what television performances suggested. “I thought he was even better. I saw other aspects, other nuances in his game,” he admitted.

According to him, the current performances of the 21-year-old midfielder are no coincidence. Able to contribute offensively and deliver decisive actions, Neves impresses above all with his consistency. “It wasn’t luck,” Vitinha insisted, convinced that his compatriot’s personality and mindset also play a major role in his success at PSG.
