Xabi Alonso is just days away from officially taking over as Real Madrid’s new head coach, but he’s already pushing hard for his first signings. However, the club’s hierarchy is urging caution and rejecting some of his early transfer requests.

Alonso reportedly wants Martín Zubimendi to anchor his midfield, but Madrid has shut down the idea, insisting on their faith in Eduardo Camavinga and Aurélien Tchouaméni. With the door closed at the Bernabéu (for now), Arsenal could swoop in.

Saliba and Konaté Not Happening

On the defensive front, Alonso wanted William Saliba or Ibrahima Konaté, but Madrid is holding off—waiting for their contracts to run down. 2 players are coming though:

  • Trent Alexander-Arnold: The world-class right-back has signed from Liverpool, bringing elite-level experience and pinpoint delivery to the flank.
  • Dean Huijsen: The 20-year-old Spanish centre-back from Bournemouth is now a Madrid player through 2030, and will debut as early as the Club World Cup in June.

More Signings Incoming

  • Angelo Stiller (Stuttgart): The 23-year-old German midfielder is a top target to reinforce the engine room.
  • Álvaro Carreras (Manchester United/Benfica): The Spanish left-back is reportedly “90% done”, according to Spanish media.
  • Franco Mastantuono: The Argentinian wonderkid (16) is in advanced talks to join, as Madrid continues its push for the next global talent.

Attack: Gyökeres, Boniface, Schick?

Alonso is also targeting a new striker to complement Kylian Mbappé and Endrick. He’s reportedly keen on Viktor Gyökeres, Victor Boniface, and Patrik Schick—players who bring physicality, versatility, and tactical discipline.

But for now, Madrid’s focus is on finalizing the signing of Trent Alexander-Arnold and Dean Huijsen, before moving forward with more additions.

Florentino Pérez Keeps Control

While Alonso has a clear vision—technical solidity, tactical discipline, and strong leadership—Florentino Pérez and the club board are calling the shots. It’s going to be a busy summer in Madrid, but one moving at the pace set by the president, not the manager.

The Xabi Alonso era has begun… but Real Madrid remains firmly in control.
