Xabi Alonso is set to become the next head coach of Real Madrid. After confirming his departure from Bayer Leverkusen at the end of the season, the Spanish tactician is on the verge of returning to the Bernabéu, where he is expected to succeed Carlo Ancelotti.
Alonso is even expected to be on the bench for the FIFA Club World Cup in June.
Big Paycheck, But Less Than Flick
According to multiple reports, Alonso will sign a deal until June 2028, a three-year contract. His salary will reportedly be around €8 million gross per year, an increase from the €5.1 million he earned in Germany.
That figure is lower than Ancelotti’s €10.92 million annual earnings, and also less than Barcelona coach Hansi Flick, who reportedly makes nearly €10 million per year.
However, sources indicate that Real Madrid may increase Alonso’s pay over time, depending on results and progress.
A new era is about to begin at the Bernabéu—Xabi Alonso is ready for the challenge.
