LOSC is on the lookout for a seasoned striker to fill the void left by Jonathan David and Chuba Akpom, and they’ve set their sights on Olivier Giroud.
According to Foot Mercato and confirmed by Le Petit Lillois, the 2018 World Cup winner is being seriously considered by Lille’s recruitment staff. Initial talks have taken place, but a few major hurdles remain.
Giroud back to Ligue 1?
The main question: would Giroud be open to returning to France, just weeks after joining Los Angeles FC in MLS? The 37-year-old had recently signed on to begin a new chapter in the United States.
Then comes the financial aspect. Giroud’s estimated salary of €3 million per year would require a significant financial commitment from Lille.
Still, his experience, leadership and goal-scoring pedigree make him an attractive target for LOSC, who are keen to make a statement signing this summer.
