Jude Bellingham is set to miss at least three months after undergoing shoulder surgery, a decision made inevitable by a lingering injury dating back to November 2023. The English midfielder will miss the start of the season and, depending on recovery time, might not return until October—or even November.
It’s a blow for Real Madrid and new manager Xabi Alonso, who begins his tenure without one of the team’s most influential players. But according to Spanish media, Alonso already has a plan in place.
Güler and Mastantuono ready to step up
Rather than panic, the Basque coach may turn to youth. Arda Güler—who showed promise last season—and Franco Mastantuono—the club’s latest Argentine prodigy—are expected to compete for Bellingham’s spot in the attacking midfield role within Alonso’s preferred 4-2-3-1 system.
It’s a risky bet, but also a golden opportunity for both players. Güler and Mastantuono will now have a chance to shine, and maybe even convince Alonso to rethink his hierarchy once Bellingham is back.
