Liverpool vs Newcastle—the battle is heating up. Despite the arrival of Hugo Ekitike, Alexander Isak remains a top target for the Reds.
According to Fabrizio Romano, Liverpool still have the Swedish striker in their sights, especially if Luis Díaz leaves this summer.
Initial contact was made ten days ago. But Newcastle are standing firm. British outlets report that the Magpies have made it clear: Isak is not for sale, even in the face of a £120m (€138m) mega offer.
Club president Yasir Al-Rumayyan has assured manager Eddie Howe that the forward—who scored 27 goals last season—is untouchable.
Isak turns up the pressure
Behind the scenes, though, tension is rising. Isak has told the board he wants to leave—this summer, no matter what. And if not, he wants a wage hike to €17m net per year, a promise he believes the club has failed to deliver.
Former sporting director Paul Mitchell reportedly blocked a raise, arguing that Isak is already “well paid.” But the Swede isn’t backing down.
Now, Newcastle face a dilemma: dig in or cash in. As for Liverpool—they haven’t given up.
