It’s now official: Hugo Ekitike has joined Liverpool. The English club paid over €90 million (around £76 million) to sign the French striker from Eintracht Frankfurt—a blockbuster deal and a fresh start for the former PSG forward.
Currently on tour in Asia with the Reds, Ekitike will wear the number 54 during pre-season. It’s a temporary choice while the squad is being finalized. With Luis Diaz or Darwin Núñez potentially on their way out, Ekitike could later inherit the iconic 7 or 9 shirts—much more prestigious.
54… before the real more prestigious number
The 22-year-old is expected to make his Liverpool debut soon. The Reds will face AC Milan in Hong Kong this weekend before traveling to Japan to take on Yokohama F. Marinos.
With this move, Ekitike enters the top five most expensive French transfers of all time, behind Mbappé, Dembélé, Griezmann, and Pogba. PSG, who had negotiated a resale clause during his move to Frankfurt, will collect around €15 million from the deal.
