Real Madrid have confirmed that Fede Valverde has suffered a lesion in the semimembranosus muscle of his right thigh, revealed after medical tests on Monday. The Uruguayan will be sidelined for around ten days and will not join his national team during the international break.
Bad news for Valverde, who asked to be substituted against Rayo Vallecano after feeling discomfort. Initially thought to be a simple muscle overload, further scans uncovered a minor injury. Thibaut Courtois also finished the match with pain in his right thigh — his own scan results are still pending.
Status to be reassessed soon
The injury underlines the physical load Valverde has carried in recent weeks. “After the examinations carried out today on our player Fede Valverde by the Real Madrid Medical Services, a lesion in the semimembranosus muscle of the right leg has been diagnosed. His condition will be re-evaluated soon,” the club said in its official statement.
A blow for Xabi Alonso’s midfield, as the team enters a crucial stretch of the season.
