Oscar suffered a serious health scare on Tuesday morning during pre-season medical tests in São Paulo. The 34-year-old former Chelsea midfielder lost consciousness during a stationary bike test, remaining unconscious for nearly two minutes.
Oscar narrowly escaped death. He was immediately attended to and then transported by ambulance to the Einstein Israelita Hospital, where he is currently in intensive care. His condition is reported to be stable.
The Brazilian had already been under observation since a cardiac anomaly was detected last August, discovered after a spinal fracture. Since then, Oscar has increasingly doubted his ability to continue his career at a high level.
Oscar considered retirement
According to Globo, he had confided in his close ones that he would stop playing at the slightest risk to his health. He has not played a match since July 19 and is now considering an amicable termination of his contract, which runs until 2027.
