In Paris, they thought they had a great deal in the transfer market: to acquire Eric Garcia for free starting in January. A perfect move, no compensation, a versatile reinforcement… but reality has just caught up with PSG. And it stings.
Bad news for PSG: Eric Garcia will (most likely) not come. The player is having the best season of his career at Barça. Hansi Flick has complete trust in him: 16 matches, 13 starts, and above all… he is the most used player in the entire squad. Central defender, right-back, solution in midfield: he helps out everywhere, shines, and establishes himself as a key player.
It is safe to say that at Camp Nou, the narrative has changed: there is no longer any question of letting him go for free.
The PSG sees the “free Eric Garcia” operation collapse
Negotiations between Deco and his agent Iván De la Peña are progressing quickly, and a new contract until 2029 – possibly 2030 – is already prepared. Barça wants to secure the deal before 2026 to prevent him from leaving for free. And most importantly: the player himself has indicated that he wants to stay.
The direct consequence: PSG, which was counting on a low-cost defensive reinforcement this winter, sees the “free Eric Garcia” operation collapse. Paris will have to look for another profile… or open the checkbook. A big chill on Parisian transfer plans.
