FC Barcelona is considering installing a statue for Lionel Messi in front of the brand new Camp Nou.
Lionel Messi soon to be immortalized at Camp Nou? Lionel Messi discreetly returned last weekend to visit the new stadium, but without notifying the club. The president of Barça seized the opportunity to make headlines… by proposing a statue for Messi, which would be installed in front of the stadium, similar to Thierry Henry’s statue in front of the Emirates in London.
During a promotional event, Laporta dropped a symbolic bombshell: “He deserves a statue in our new stadium. We are preparing a model, and if the family agrees, we will do it.”
A way to put an end to rumors of tension and to affirm one thing: despite his departure, Messi will forever be etched in the walls and now perhaps in the stone of FC Barcelona.
