Birmingham City have dropped an architectural bombshell: a brand-new 62,000-seat stadium featuring massive power-plant-style chimneys, visible from up to 40 miles away. Yes, really.
Called “The Birmingham City Powerhouse”, the futuristic arena will be the centrepiece of a huge 48-acre Sports Quarter led by American owners Knighthead Capital.
The concept looks like a mix between a factory, a sports cathedral and a sci-fi spaceship, designed to become an unmistakable landmark across the region.
Historical design, modern stadium
The new stadium will include a retractable roof, multiple moveable pitches, and the ability to host NFL, rugby union, concerts and mega-events. Owner Tom Wagner wants a multi-sport monster that can morph for any occasion.
A massive contrast with Birmingham’s current St Andrew’s ground, which holds just 29,409 fans — less than half the size of the proposed powerhouse.
Birmingham are going from a traditional stadium… to a sports megastructure with giant chimneys.
And the football world is stunned.
Birmingham City have announced plans for a new 62,000-capacity stadium that they say will be seen from up to 40 miles away.
