When asked about Mohamed Salah’s public statements, who has been sidelined by Liverpool after criticizing his coach, Thierry Henry took a firm stance. For the former French international, a player must defend their club at all times and resolve conflicts away from the cameras.
Thierry Henry did not hold back after Mohamed Salah’s comments, which were recently critical of certain internal decisions at Liverpool. For the Arsenal legend, expressing discontent publicly is never the solution.
“I had problems with Wenger, with Guardiola… Have you ever heard me talk about it publicly? Never. I was protecting the club,” Henry recalls. The former striker insists: when you wear a jersey, you also carry a responsibility. “When you play for a club, you must protect it at all costs. No matter what happens internally, you protect the club — your teammates, the coach, the staff.”
Salah on the bench, Liverpool places him on the transfer list
Salah, who scored 38 goals before finding himself on the bench, expressed his confusion, a reaction that Henry says he understands but does not condone: “You can be angry, frustrated, disagree… but you don’t air your dirty laundry in public, especially when the club is going through a tough time.”
For Henry, professional conduct requires patience and discretion: “You wait, you resolve things internally. Then, if you want to leave or express your point of view, you do it at the right time.”
He concludes by mentioning the natural ego of a goalscorer: “I understand Mo’s frustration… But there comes a time when you have to put the team before yourself.”
A reminder from Henry, urging Salah to adopt a more collective view of his role during a challenging period for Liverpool.
