Real Madrid has already moved on from Xabi Alonso. After just 232 days and 34 matches on the bench, the Spanish coach left his position on Monday, by mutual agreement with the management, even though his contract was supposed to run until 2028.
Arriving with great ambitions, Alonso had perfectly started his Madrid adventure, achieving 17 victories in his first 20 matches, taking the lead in La Liga and having a flawless run in the Champions League in the autumn. But the momentum abruptly reversed. In the last 14 matches, Real has only won 7 games, with several notable defeats and a style of play deemed stagnant, which ultimately weakened his position.
Strained by the pressure and the atmosphere of distrust surrounding his project, the former midfielder and the management agreed to part ways after a meeting in Valdebebas. His final record (24 wins, 4 draws, 6 losses) remains respectable on paper, but is largely insufficient by the club’s standards. Álvaro Arbeloa has been appointed to ensure the transition.
Jürgen Klopp, Plan For the Next Summer
Now, all eyes are on the future… and especially on Jürgen Klopp. According to information from Florian Plettenberg, a journalist for Sky Sports, the German would be the absolute priority for Florentino Pérez and is seriously considering the possibility of taking over the Madrid bench next summer. Even though Red Bull continues to assert that he is not for sale since leaving Liverpool, Real has never truly given up on this dream.
If this fails, a plan B already exists: Enzo Maresca, recently dismissed from Chelsea and now free, is also on the shortlist. One thing is certain: after the short and disappointing stint of Xabi Alonso, Real Madrid wants to make a strong impact… and is now waiting for Jürgen Klopp’s response.
