Sacked on Monday by Real Madrid, Xabi Alonso reacted the very next day. On Instagram, the Basque coach posted a short, clear-headed and dignified message.
A short and dignified farewell
“This chapter of my professional career is over, and it did not unfold as we would have wished. Coaching Real Madrid has been an honor and a responsibility. I thank the club, the players, and above all the Real Madrid supporters for their trust and support. I leave with respect, gratitude, and the pride of having given the best of myself,” the Basque coach wrote simply.
After just over seven months on the bench, the adventure comes to an early end. Real have already moved on by appointing Alvaro Arbeloa, the former reserve-team coach, to take over.
