According to information from The Athletic journalist Mario Cortegana, three key players in the Madrid squad opposed the ideas and management of the Spanish coach: Vinicius Junior, Jude Bellingham, and Federico Valverde. When Mbappé, Tchouameni, Arda Güler, Dani Ceballos and Raúl Asencio were backing Alonso.
The case of Vinicius is even the most revealing of the discomfort. The Brazilian forward reportedly chose not to post any message of thanks to his former coach on social media, a gesture that carries significant meaning in the current context.
Alonso wanted to leave last summer already
These tensions have been ongoing since Xabi Alonso’s arrival. The Spanish coach, shocked by the behavior of some, even considered leaving his position… as early as last July.
