Closely watched for his work rate and attitude, Kylian Mbappé can rely on strong support: that of head coach Didier Deschamps. The France manager has stepped in to shield his captain and respond to criticism as expectations continue to rise.

With the World Cup approaching, Deschamps has firmly defended his star forward. Facing reproaches about Mbappé’s running volume and supposed individualism, the coach delivered a clear and direct message to critics: he fully stands by his choice to keep Mbappé as captain.

Deschamps firmly backs his captain’s leadership and qualities

“Mbappé behaves like a captain,” Deschamps said. “If you expect him to run at least 11 kilometers per match, don’t waste your time — he won’t do it. But he has other qualities that are important and decisive. Whether you like him or not, young people love him,” he stated during a sports journalism festival.
