Speaking at a press conference, Pep Guardiola made a notable statement about Manchester City’s spending on the transfer market. With a touch of irony, the Spanish coach responded to the recurring criticism aimed at the English club’s level of investment.

The Citizens manager compared the amounts spent by his team with those of their main Premier League rivals, while mocking some of the accusations directed at his club in recent years.

Guardiola answers critics about transfer budgets

Responding to criticism about spending, he said it is simply impossible to win without investing: “I’m a bit sad and upset because over the last five years, City are only seventh in Premier League spending. I wish we were first. I don’t understand why the club doesn’t spend more money.”
