PSG regained the psychological upper hand over OM with a 5–0 win that will remain in the history books. A symbol of the collapse, the Marseille captain admitted after the match that the team fell short, especially in the first half. “We cannot accept this, we don’t come here for this,” said captain Balerdi at the final whistle on Ligue 1+ microphone. “We were not there in the first half, and you see the difference against a team like that.”
OM Under Pressure After Record Classique Loss
This historic thrashing leaves OM under pressure in the standings and forces a rapid response in the next match. Coach Roberto De Zerbi apologized to the supporters after the heavy 5–0 defeat against PSG, the most severe loss in Classique history. Clearly shaken, the Marseille manager acknowledged the seriousness of the performance, saying, “It’s total despair,” and repeated in his press conference: “Once again, I ask the supporters for forgiveness.”
The Italian coach pointed to his team’s inconsistency, unable to reproduce their recent good performances: “We play well against Rennes and Lens, and then it’s total despair.” He now wants to understand the performance gaps: “Why do we go to Bruges and play like that? Why do we come here and play like this?” He also announced his intention to speak with the club’s management to review the situation. Regarding his lineup choices, De Zerbi expressed no regrets, insisting the issue was collective: “When so many players have an insufficient match, there are no regrets.” He concluded bluntly: “There’s no need to talk after losing like this. You have to look inside yourself and think you could have done better.”
