Beye is very close to becoming the new head coach of Marseille. OM is set to announce a short-term assignment for the former Rennes manager.
According to Libération, Senegalese coach Habib Beye is “99%” expected to take over on the Marseille bench after finalizing his departure from Rennes. His objective will be clear: finish in the top three of Ligue 1 to secure Champions League qualification, with the possibility of extending his stay afterward. He is expected to arrive alone, on a modest salary.
Internal power shift reshapes Marseille leadership
At the same time, there has been a reversal behind the scenes: previously reported as resigning, Medhi Benatia will ultimately remain director of football. Owner Frank McCourt personally stepped in to convince him to continue through the end of the 2025–2026 season to ensure sporting stability. Benatia will oversee the entire sporting department and supervise the appointment of the new head coach.
The main loser in this reshuffle is Pablo Longoria. The president will keep a role at the club but will be refocused on institutional duties and representation with governing bodies. A polite way of showing him the exit door, but that will come later. Finally, Roberto De Zerbi will not be returning.
