PSG Desperately Searching for a Penalty Taker

Another penalty wasted, this time by Désiré Doué in Le Havre. And it’s no longer an accident — it’s a crisis. Paris Saint-Germain simply no longer knows how to score from the spot.

PSG is desperately looking for its designated taker. The numbers are painful: 10 awarded, 5 converted, 5 missed. A 50% success rate. At European level, where the norm hovers around 75–80%, that is alarming for a club of this stature. Dembélé (two misses), Barcola, Vitinha, Doué… everyone tries, no one establishes himself. No hierarchy. No leader.

The irony? In penalty shootouts this season, Paris has been clinical against Liverpool, Tottenham, Flamengo, and Marseille. The technique is there. The problem is mental.

The most reliable taker on paper is Gonçalo Ramos. Yet he often starts on the bench. Hakimi has the personality. Vitinha has the experience. Still, no one officially takes ownership of the ball. Today, when the referee points to the penalty spot, the Parc no longer rises in confidence… it holds its breath. And in major matches, that fragility can prove very, very costly.
