A major blow for Real Madrid. Introduced in the 55th minute against Getafe during the Merengue’s 1-0 home defeat on Monday, Rodrygo underwent extensive medical examinations on Tuesday morning after feeling pain in his right knee.
The verdict is clear. In a statement released Tuesday afternoon, Real Madrid announced that the Brazilian winger has suffered a rupture of the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee along with a tear of the external meniscus. A serious injury that brings his season to an immediate end.
A devastating knee injury ends his season
“Following tests carried out today on our player Rodrygo by the Real Madrid Medical Services, a rupture of the anterior cruciate ligament as well as a tear of the external meniscus in the right leg has been diagnosed,” the club confirmed in its official statement.
Rodrygo will therefore miss the remainder of the season with the Madrid club and will also be absent from the upcoming World Cup with Brazil. It is a huge setback for the 25-year-old forward.
Since Álvaro Arbeloa took charge of the Madrid bench, Rodrygo had only appeared in three matches. This new injury further complicates his situation. The Brazilian had not played a single minute since February 1 against Rayo Vallecano (2-1). Five days later, he suffered a hamstring injury that had already disrupted his season.
