Paris Saint-Germain once had a strong Brazilian flavor. From Raí to Neymar, including Thiago Silva and Marquinhos, the Paris dressing room almost spoke Portuguese. Back then, the club’s radar was firmly pointed south, straight toward Brazil.
Today, the samba version of PSG has faded, making room for a Portuguese connection with Mendes, Neves, Ramos and Vitinha. But years ago, Paris had the chance to sign a certain 21-year-old Kaká for around six million dollars. Yes, just six. A full scouting package was prepared: DVD, complete résumé, elegant highlights — everything was ready.
A Rejected Opportunity That Changed Football History
Former scout Franck Henouda recalled the story in 2024 on Média Carré. While searching for an attacking option in Brazil, he spotted Kaká at São Paulo. “He would come on, he would play, and in the final matches he was starting. I saw exceptional elegance,” Henouda explained. Convinced, he prepared a detailed DVD with the player’s profile and name clearly displayed before presenting it to coach Vahid Halilhodžić and sporting director Jean-Michel Moutier, who immediately showed interest.
But when the DVD reached Halilhodžić’s desk, the reaction was abrupt. “Kaká? That’s not a player’s name,” the coach reportedly said, tossing the disc aside (in French, Kaká can mean… poop). Two months later, Kaká signed for AC Milan. The rest is history: Ballon d’Or 2007. A missed opportunity that still stings. The lesson? Never judge a player by his name — especially when he goes on to become the best in the world.
