Jules Koundé was forced off just 13 minutes into the Copa del Rey semi-final second leg against Atlético Madrid. The FC Barcelona defender grabbed his right calf before sitting down on the pitch, clearly in pain. He eventually left the field accompanied by the medical staff, raising immediate concerns.
The injury has also sparked worries for the French national team. The France international was replaced by Alejandro Balde, while Joao Cancelo moved over to the right side of Barcelona’s defense to fill the gap left by Koundé.
France Faces Another Potential Absence
This setback could jeopardize Koundé’s participation in the upcoming France national team gathering. Les Bleus are scheduled to face Brazil on March 26 and Colombia on March 29 in friendly matches set to take place in the United States.
According to L’Equipe, Koundé could be sidelined for at least a month. It is a major blow not only for Barcelona but also for France, who will already be without Kylian Mbappé. With two key players potentially missing, Didier Deschamps faces a complicated build-up as preparations continue for the World Cup.
