The postponement of the Ligue 1 match between Paris Saint-Germain and FC Nantes, decided in order to help the Parisian club better prepare for its Champions League double clash against Chelsea, has sparked strong reactions. Speaking on RMC, Daniel Riolo believes the decision clearly disadvantages the Canaries, who are currently involved in a tight battle to avoid relegation.
The French Professional Football League (LFP) confirmed that the Ligue 1 match between Paris and Nantes, initially scheduled for mid-March, will ultimately be played during the week of April 20. The aim is to ease PSG’s schedule between the two Champions League round-of-16 matches against Chelsea. The choice has generated debate, particularly given FC Nantes’ difficult situation in the standings.
Riolo denounces “total submission” to PSG
On the show After Foot on RMC, Daniel Riolo did not hold back, accusing Nantes president Waldemar Kita of showing “total submission” to PSG. According to him, accepting the postponement only makes things harder by creating an even more congested schedule. “It’s nothing but submission,” he said.
“If you do someone a favor, I have no problem with being nice and helping our teams shine in European competitions. But not if it’s against your own interests, in a posture of total submission, which is what Ligue 1 has become in relation to PSG,” he continued.
Riolo also believes Nantes is taking a clear sporting risk. “When you’re Nantes and you organize a week with three matches, while you don’t have the squad or the mentality to handle it, you’re shooting yourself in the foot just to help someone else. That’s pure submission,” he insisted, adding that French clubs give in so easily to PSG that such decisions almost happen automatically.
