“An Atmosphere of Fear at OM”: Benatia Accused

The football director of Olympique de Marseille, Medhi Benatia, reportedly does not enjoy unanimous support within the club. In the columns of La Provence, a source close to the Marseille dressing room points to the management methods of the official who had resigned but was kept in place by owner Franck McCourt.

What is happening at OM? After an unprecedented crisis marked by the departure of the coach, the staff, and the president, the Benatia case is now drawing increasing criticism. According to this anonymous testimony, the atmosphere within the club is said to be particularly tense.

Anonymous source describes a tense and intimidating environment inside the club

“There is a climate of fear at OM. Everyone is frightened of Benatia; everything is monitored down to the second. If he finds you inadequate, he shows you the door. If you have an opinion, he shows you the door,” the source claims.

According to this individual close to the club, the pressure is so intense that very few people dare to speak out. “No one dares to talk. None of the players, coaches, assistants, or assistants to assistants dares to say a word because they all depend on him. And he says one thing one day and something else the next,” the source continues.

Medhi Benatia had submitted his resignation on February 15 before eventually agreeing to remain in his position at OM until the end of the 2025–2026 season. For now, he holds full authority… but not necessarily full support, as the situation suggests.
