Olise and Kimmich Accused of Gaming Yellow Cards, UEFA Delivers Its Verdict

Suspected of deliberately provoking a yellow card during Bayern Munich’s crushing 6–1 victory away to Atalanta in the Champions League, Michael Olise and Joshua Kimmich will ultimately face no additional punishment from UEFA.

Bayern Munich can breathe a sigh of relief. Michael Olise and Joshua Kimmich will indeed be suspended for the next Champions League match — which may sound strange, but it actually works perfectly for the German club, now almost qualified for the quarter-finals. That is because the yellow card count will be reset… after the quarter-final stage.

UEFA Chooses Not to Open Disciplinary Proceedings

According to L’Équipe, UEFA’s disciplinary committee decided not to open a case against the two Bayern players. Already at risk of suspension, Olise delayed taking a corner while Kimmich did the same with a free kick, actions that earned them both a yellow card and therefore a suspension for the return leg.

However, since the referee did not report any suspicious behavior in his match report, UEFA chose not to pursue the matter further. Kimmich and Olise will therefore miss the second leg — leaving Bayern surprisingly relaxed with a five-goal advantage. Clever, you might say.
